THE RUINS| of the mansion of Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson was built in loving memory of his deceased wife, Maria Braga after her death in 1911. The mansion of Italianate architecture was designed to be a monument of their enduring love. In the eve of World War II in 1942, the mansion was torched by Guerilla fighters and was burning for three days leaving only behind remains of the glorious past.
At 903 square meters the ruin structure still stands amidst sugar plantation and continues to awe both local and foreign tourists.
The mansion was the largest residential structure ever built at that time and had in it one of the finest furniture, chinaware, and decorative items, as the father of Maria Braga was the captain of a ship that sailed across Europe and Asia and would cart with him these items.
One may visit “the ruins” in an accessible way. From the ‘Bata area’ in Bacolod City upon reaching the PEPSI bottling plant, turn east, and for about 600 meters onwards, you will notice a cell site tower above a two-story-building on the left side of the street. Opposite to that building, you will see a sign board what marks the direction as it says on its signage, “THIS WAY TO THE RUINS”. You will have to enter a narrow street leading to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Be keen on the small red and yellow signs on the electrical posts which will lead you all the way to "The RUINS".
The RUINS is 15 minutes away from the city, truly a magnificent sight to discover and a perfect side trip when visiting Negros after climbing Mt. Kanlaon.
